PM calls on President

NEW DELHI DEC. 6. The Prime Minister, A.B. Vajpayee, today called on the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, to greet him on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr.

The visit lasted about an hour, and the two leaders were said to have discussed the political and economic situation in the country.

It is also understood that Mr. Vajpayee briefed the President on the recent visit of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.

On Saturday Mr. Vajpayee will be on a daylong election tour of Gujarat.

A public meeting in Jamnagar is to be followed by a rally in Baroda. He will return to the capital late at night.

His second election visit to the State is scheduled for December 9, when he will address public meetings in Surat and Ahmedabad.
