Indians off to a bad start

BANGALORE Dec. 6. Indian's generally fared badly in the opening day of the World Cup 2002 badminton for the disabled which began at the KBA Courts here today. Barring Anand Kumar and Amarendra, who posted two victories in the standing lower singles group A and group D, respectively, none of the other Indians in the fray could progress further on the opening day.

Isreal and Chinese Taipei shuttlers made their presence felt both in numbers and performances on the court, posting creditable wins in both the wheelchair and standing categories.

The results: Wheel Chair I (Singles): Group A: G.A. Baba Yossi (Isreal) bt Wansink Anneke (Hol) 15-2, 15-6; Mekhala M (SL) bt Wansink Anneke 15-7, 15-11; Baba Yossi bt Mekala M 15-9, 15-6.

Group B: Levy Amir (Isreal) bt Shfania Malbal (Isreal) 15-6, 15-0; Shfania Malbal bt Meijer De Carol (Hol) 11-15, 15-12, 15-13; Levy Amir bt Meijer De Carol 15-0, 15-2.
