CPI functionaries held

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry Nov. 20. The former Minister, R. Viswanathan, the Secretary of the CPI State Committee, N. Kalainathan, former Deputy Mayor of Pondicherry, Saraswathi Subbiah , V. S. Abishegam (AITUC) and a host of volunteers of the party were arrested at Mudaliarpet near here today when they burnt copies of a manual published by Department of Information and Publicity on `Pudhuvai Sivam`.

The slogan shouting agitators pointed out that the manual (released last month when the statue of Sivam was unveiled by Chief Minister) contained `utterly misleading and incorrect details claiming that Sivam had spearheaded the movement of workers in 1936.'

The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Rangasamy talking to presspersons said he had received a petition from the CPI secretary, N. Kalainathan. He would go through the complaint and invite the CPI leader for a dialogue.
