But slum dwellers and those living in the low-lying areas had a harrowing time protecting themselves from Nature's fury. The sudden burst of showers took the people by surprise as it was bright and sunny throughout the day and cloud formation began only in the evening. The downpour was sudden and heavy and the rainfall which commenced at 6.45 p.m., lashed till 9.30 p.m. After a brief lull, it began to pour heavily again and lasted till midnight. The searing heat experienced during the day dropped drastically due to the downpour. Parts of low-lying areas were flooded and life in the city was disrupted. The evening crowd in D.Devaraj Urs Road, Sayyaji Rao Road, Dhanavantri Road, Askoka Road, etc., was forced to scurry for cover. Though there was no casualty, trees and electric poles were uprooted in many places leading to power shutdown in several parts of the city. Residents in low-lying areas such as Udayagiri, Ramanuja Road, Agrahara and parts of Siddarthanagar were seen flushing out water. Traffic came to a standstill and a few main roads were inundated as drains overflowed.
