Commercial Taxes Dept., civic bodies join forces

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD SEPT. 18. A joint campaign is being launched by the Commercial Taxes Department with Municipal bodies to improve the collection of profession tax.

The Department is obtaining Permanent Account Number (PAN) data for cross-check from the Income Tax Department which has appointed nodal officers in all the districts. This was stated at a meeting convened by the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, to review the performance of the Commercial Taxes Department here today.

The Chief Minister was informed that the rate of tax on bullion had reduced to 0.5 per cent on par with Tamil Nadu and the CST rate on imported pulses slashed to one per cent. The loopholes in the entry tax had been plugged and care taken to mitigate hardships of businessmen.

The advance way bills system had been introduced on evasion-prone commodities/trades to curb the menace.

The Department had achieved 100.39 per cent of the revenue target in case of both APGST and CST in August, registering a growth rate of 15.94 per cent lwhich was the highest in the country. Central tax collections in AP had recorded a 10.02 per cent growth upto August.

Reviewing the working of the divisions, Mr. Naidu suggested making an inter-division comparative study on the basis of growth rates to identify reasons for the variations.

He also wanted performance of officers upto ACTO level to be analysed and graded.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the working of the Stamps and Registration Department and gave instructions to officials to expeditiously dispose off disciplinary cases pending against the employees and take stringent action against those found guilty of corrupt practices.

The Finance Minister, Y. Ramakrishnudu, Commercial Taxes Minister, K. Vijayarama Rao and Revenue Minister, P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, were present.
