French Senators arrive

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry Sept.13. A delegation of French Senators led by Pierre Fauchon arrived here today on a three-day visit. The team was received by the French Consul General, Michel Seguy.

The delegation visited the century-old Lycee Francaise, an educational institution run by the French Government, and the Alliance Francaise. It would pay homage at the War Memorial (Monument aux morts) on the beach road tomorrow and visit the French institutions functioning here.

The team would have a meeting with the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, a French Consulate General communication said today.

The visit was intended to build up awareness of South India in France and reinforce the friendly relations between the two countries. The delegation, which had visited New Delhi and Bangalore, arrived at Chennai today from where they drove to Pondicherry, a former French colony.

The representative of French nationals in the Paris-based Superior Council of French citizens residing abroad, Mohammad Moustafa, said in a communication that a meeting was organised to accord a reception to the visiting team.
