Cong. firm on Prabakaran's extradition

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI SEPT. 6. The Congress today ruled out any dilution in its stand on the extradition of the LTTE chief, V. Prabakaran, despite the Sri Lankan Government's decision to lift the ban on the organisation.

Asked to react on the Sri Lankan Government's decision to lift the ban on the LTTE, the Congress chief spokesman, S. Jaipal Reddy, said: "It is part of the internal peace process. We are not opposed to the talks between the Government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE for restoration of normality, but as far as India is concerned, Prabakaran needs to be extradited as he was found guilty by the Supreme Court in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.''

Also, Mr. Reddy sought to underline the fact that both the Central Government and the Congress had been demanding the extradition of Prabakaran.
