NC suffers jolt as another Minister resigns

Jammu Sept. 1. The ruling National Conference (NC) in Jammu and Kashmir suffered another jolt when the Minister of State for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Chaudhury Mohammad Hussain, resigned on health grounds on Thursday last.

Another NC Minister of State (Agriculture), Tsetan Namgyal from Ladakh, had already put in his papers and joined the newly-formed Ladakh Union Territory Front (LUTF).

According to local media reports, Mr. Hussain was peeved with the party after his son Choudhary Zulfiqar Ali was denied the party ticket from the Darhal Assembly constituency. Later Mr. Zulfiqar Ali filed nomination as an Independent candidate for the same seat.

Mr. Hussain had won five times from the constituency and there is a possibility that he might resign as a member of the Central Working Committee of the NC, reports said.

Reports said Mr. Zulfiqar Ali was the lone choice of the NC selection committee for the Darharl seat and his candidature was supported by district and provincial bodies.
