The executive committee said support to the BJP went against the secular and democratic traditions of the State. ``At least now, they should give up politics of opposition towards the Left parties and take the stand conforming to the present political situation, democratic traditions and people's unity,'' it said in a resolution passed at a meeting. Despite the BJP announcing the yatra, the DMK, along with the AIADMK, the PMK and the MDMK, was continuing to support the BJP-led Government at the Centre. The Dravidian parties should at least now come to a decision about a "fascist party such as the BJP", it added. The CPI State secretary, R. Nallakannu, in a statement, said the State was facing an unprecedented drought. People were selling their cattle cheaply and migrating to other States in search of employment. Weavers were forced to open gruel centres to feed themselves. He accused the AIADMK Government of intimidating Opposition parties through the use of the POTA.
