'Third Front' formed in J&K

By Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR AUG. 23. A ``Third Front'', called the Kashmir Resolution Movement (KRM), was announced at a press conference here today. Twelve political, social and human rights groups comprise the KRM. The press meet was addressed by the Jamat-e-Islami leader, Abdul Khaliq Parray, alias Hanief, who was a close associate of the Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Geelani, and also worked as his secretary till he met the Officer on Special Duty in the PMO and the former RAW chief, A.S. Dulat. He was later expelled from the party.

Today's announcement was the outcome of the efforts of the Kashmir Committee, led by Ram Jethmalani, which recently met separatist leaders and also people like Mr. Parray and former militant commander, Imran Rahi, who had launched a political outfit, the People's Party. Mr. Hanief vowed to work for a durable and peaceful solution to the Kashmir problem and said ``election is a step towards that''.
