JD(U) to go it alone in J&K, Gujarat

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI AUG. 22. The Janata Dal (United) is planning to go it alone in Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat Assembly elections even as it began preparations for the next round of Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

With the Election Commission issuing notification for the Jammu and Kashmir polls, the JD(U) has begun short-listing candidates for the first phase. The party hopes to contest 14 of the 26 seats at stake and could field an equal number in the rest of the State.

The party president and Union Minister, Sharad Yadav, would tour Jammu and hold political rallies on September 6 and 7. He is also scheduled to hold a series of election meetings in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat during the next three weeks. This Saturday, he travels to Satna in Madhya Pradesh and the next day it would be in Mandvi, Gujarat.
