Daily Sanskrit bulletin on DD from today

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI AUG. 21. As part of its ''public service broadcasting mandate of reviving and preserving the cultural heritage of India'', Doordarshan has decided to broadcast a five-minute news bulletin in Sanskrit daily on the national channel.

The Sanskrit bulletin will go on air from Thursday on the occasion of World Sanskrit Day. Compiled and edited by the News Division of Doordarshan at the Central Production Centre here, it will capsule the events of the past 24 hours. With the introduction of the bulletin, the weekly Sanskrit News Magazine — telecast every Sunday afternoon — will be discontinued, according to a Prasar Bharati release. While Doordarshan has made this move only now, All India Radio has been broadcasting Sanskrit news bulletins twice a day on its national network for sometime now.
