KPCL to write to Govt. on RTPS 8th unit

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE Aug. 15. The Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd. (KPCL) will, by the end August, seek formal allotment (from the Government) for the eighth unit of the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS).

The Managing Director of the KPCL, K. Jothiramalingam, told presspersons here on Wednesday that the decision was made at that day's board meeting. He would write to the Energy Secretary after feasibility studies on the cost of energy and tariff were completed in 10 to 15 days, he added.

He said the site depended on cost-effectiveness. Raichur, Wadi, and Gulbarga were being considered, he added.

On Wednesday, the board set up a sub-committee to examine an order by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) on having a uniform tariff structure and other technical parameters for all RTPS units. The committee, comprising Mr. Jothiramalingam, the Energy Secretary, K.P. Pandey, and the Managing Director of the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company, B.G. Rudrappa, will "guide the KPCL to take further action,'' Mr. Jothiramalingam said. Before the end of the one-month period (after the July 25 KERC order), the committee would meet. Mr. Jothiramalingam said the KPCL would sanction Rs. 4 crore for rehabilitating the people of Devkar village, who were affected by the Kadra power project.
