People will see through strike: Soopy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM July 26. The people will see through the hidden aims of those who are unleashing violence under the guise of protesting against the granting of Plus Two schools in the unaided sector, the Education Minister, Nalakath Soopy, has said.

In a pressnote here today, Mr. Soopy said the strike against the Government move, aimed at resolving regional imbalances in opportunities for students for post-SSLC studies and for enabling the maximum number of students to continue their studies after SSLC, wa `anti-people'.

In over 400 grama panchayats in the State, there was no Plus Two. Even as 2,77,062 candidates passed the SSLC examinations in March, there are only 1,73,788 seats in 932 higher secondary schools.

Even if seats in VHSC, ITI and the Polytechnics were taken into account, 75,000 students still cannot get a Plus Two seat.

There is also a regional imbalance in this matter. The situation being this and as the present economic situation of the State does not permit further investment in Plus Two in the Govermnment/aided sector, the only choice was to allow Plus Two schools in the unaided sector.

The Plus One classes will commence on August 5. A chance had to be given to students who wrote the SAY examination.

The last date for receiving applications for commencing classes in the newly-sanctioned Plus Two schools has been extended to July 27.
