Ishwarya Shobana shocks Natarajan

Chennai July 17. Unrated former National Under-12 and 14 girls' champion L.Ishwarya Shobana of Salem shocked eleventh seed C.Natarajan of ICF in the Avadi Chess Academy's FIDE-rating tournament that commenced here at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium on Wednesday.

Ishwarya Shobana, a tenth standard student of Cluny Matriculation School counter attacked while on defence and won the thrilling encounter by sacrificing her rook on the queen side. Natarajan who had set up a mate in one for himself, never got the opportunity to execute it and the stocky girl pounced on the kill first, attracting all the attention of the three halls which staged the event.
