Station masters defer stir

CHENNAI July 16. Station masters, who had planned to go on a 48-hour `stop train stir' from July 18 throughout the country, today decided to defer the move.

The decision to postpone the stir followed the Madras High Court's injunction on the station masters' decision to go on strike and the assurance of the Railway Ministers of State to the office-bearers of the All-India Station Masters' Association (AISMA) that the Ministry would consider their demands sympathetically.

The secretary general of the Association, T.Vijayakumar, told The Hindu that they had decided to postpone the strike by 15 days.

If there was no response from the Ministry, they would go ahead with the strike. Meanwhile, they would move the Madras High Court to vacate the stay against the strike, he added.
