Monsoon active again throughout Kodagu

MADIKERI July 12. After a lull for nearly three weeks, the monsoon has been active throughout Kodagu since Thursday evening bringing back cheers to farmers.

The district has received widespread rainfall in the last 24 hours.

Madikeri taluk recorded 104.4 mm rainfall, while reports of good rainfall have come from Bhagamandala and Talacauvery areas, raising hopes of good inflow into the Cauvery.

From January till July 11 this year, Madikeri taluk has received a rainfall of 860.3 mm (1,489.6 mm in the corresponding period last year).

Virajpet taluk received 50.8 mm rainfall for a total of 622.1 mm (1,258. 4 mm last year) and Somwarpet taluk 29.8 mm rainfall for a total of 641.3 mm (899.4 mm in the corresponding period last year).

However, the Harangi Reservoir area received only 14 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.

The reservoir level on Friday stood at 2,829.40 feet as against the maximum of 2,859 feet.

The level during the corresponding period last year was 2,855.46 feet. The inflow into the reservoir today was 850 cusecs.

Offerings

The office-bearers of the Virajpet Kodava Samaja performed puja at the Sri Iggutappa Temple on Wednesday, invoking the blessings of the rain god.

The Akhila Kodava Samaja, led by its President, Matanda C.Monnappa, offered puja at the temple on Thursday praying for rainfall throughout the district.

The Deputy Commissioner, B.S.Palaksha, the Superintendent of Police, Umesh Kumar, the Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat, M.K.Baladeva Krishna, and villagers, participated in the puja.

The Minister of State for Muzrai, Suma Vasant, will offer puja at the Bhagamandala and Talacauvery temples on Sunday, according to a statement issued here on Friday by Mr. Monnappa, who is also the President of the Talacauvery and Bhagamandala Jeernodhara Samiti, constituted by the State Government to renovate the twin temple complexes.
