`Arrest will force LTTE to take to peace path'

By Our Special Correspondent

MADURAI JULY 12. The arrest of the MDMK general secretary, Vaiko, under the Prevention of Terrorism Act will all the more compel the LTTE to find a solution to the ethnic crisis through negotiations with the Sri Lankan Government, the Congress MP, E. M. Sudarsana Natchiappan, has said.

Talking to The Hindu today, the Sivaganga MP said the arrest of Mr. Vaiko for his speech supporting the LTTE had nipped in the bud any possibility of the banned outfit indulging in ``crossborder terrorism,'' as was happening in Kashmir.

He appreciated the ``bold step'' of the State Government of arresting MDMK leaders for propagating the principles of a banned organisation.

Otherwise, he alleged, the LTTE would have succeeded in its ``strategy to have a foothold in Tamil Nadu.'' Mr. Natchiappan wanted the Centre and the State Government to continue with their ``strong action'' against the LTTE and ``see that no second Kashmir is created.''
