Competitive support led to misuse: CPI

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI July 12. The CPI national secretary, D. Raja, today blamed the ``competitive support'' of the Prevention of Terrorism Act by all Dravidian parties for the arrest of the MDMK general secretary, Vaiko.

Noting that both the DMK and the MDMK, apart from the AIADMK, supported the POTA, he said this paved the way for "misuse" of the anti-terrorism legislation by the AIADMK Government.

The arrest confirmed the Left fears that the ``draconian and fascist'' legislation could be misused for political purposes.

The State unit of the CPI, meanwhile, described the arrest as a ``tactic'' by the AIADMK Government to divert the people's attention from real issues.
