There were certain ``guidelines'' to effect a ban. ``We are not involved in any kind of terrorism or anti-national activity to attract a ban''.
Undaunted by the events of the past two days, which culminated in the arrest of a large number of volunteers apart from the general secretary, Vaiko, the MDMK leader went hammer and tongs at the AIADMK Government. ``She (Jayalalithaa) was peeved at our exposing her anti-people policies''.
He termed the arrest of Mr.Vaiko ``clear misuse of the POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act), anti-democratic and politically motivated''.
The future course of action would be chalked out only after consultations with legal experts.
Asked whether there was any possibility of Central Ministers of his party getting arrested, Mr. Kannappan quipped ``nobody can predict her (Jayalalithaa's) action''.
Mr. Kannappan made it clear that the MDMK would support any party or organisation fighting for the cause of Sri Lankan Tamils. ``Even the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister are aware of the party's support to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam''.
To a question whether the current events would have any impact on the party's stand towards the LTTE, he said the MDMK had been staunchly supporting the outfit it since the birth of the party in 1994 because it was dedicated to and fighting for the cause of Tamils in the island nation. ``We do not subscribe to any of its other activities''.
Would you seek any amendment to the POTA? The Minister said the party had supported the law as it was meant to curb terrorist activities. However, the current ``initiative'' of the Tamil Nadu was a ``lesson to other States in how this should not be misused''.
