Communal clash in Bhavnagar

By Our Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD JUNE 28. The police fired 18 rounds and burst about a dozen teargas shells following a communal clash in Bhavnagar city in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat this evening.

A report reaching here said the trouble started after the members of the rival community attacked a religious procession. One person was injured in the violence. As members of both the communities joined the fight, throwing stones and acid bulbs at each other, police first burst teargas shells and later opened fire to disperse the clashing mobs. Police said no one was injured in firing. The situation was tense but under control. The authorities were concerned because sending police reinforcement would have been difficult as Bhavnagar had been cut off due to breaches on the highway caused by rains.
