BCI fiat to law colleges

AFTER STREAMLINING the mushrooming of law colleges, the Bar Council Of India (BCI) has come out with a directive to set in order their functioning.

As per the new directive, the existing law colleges should acquire a registration certificate every year before admissions are made. The certificate would be issued based on the infrastructure and quality of teaching clearly outlining the courses it has to offer. Students can insist on checking the registration certificate before joining.

Till now, some colleges were going ahead with academics based on their affiliation to the university concerned. However, they now have to acquire both the affiliation as well as the certificate from the BCI if the LAWCET convenor has to allot students.

The BCI also made it clear that students better verify bonafides of the colleges before taking admissions. Few colleges in the City have already acquired the certificate, according to officials.
