Bangladesh President quits

Dhaka June 20. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party President, Badruddoza Chowdhury, tonight decided to resign shortly after the parliamentary wing of the BNP adopted a resolution expressing no-confidence in him and asking him to quit.

The resolution demanding Mr. Chowdhury's ouster came on the concluding day of the two-day meeting of the BNP parliamentary party chaired by the party chief and Prime Minister, Begum Khaleda Zia, here this evening.

The ruling party leadership was sore about Mr. Chowdhury's ``failure'' at a commemorative function to declare that Zia-ur-Rahman was the first to announce Bangladesh's independence on March 26, 1971. — PTI
