The outcome of the vote of confidence would depend on tomorrow's decision by the Peasants and Workers Party (PWP), which has five MLAs. The CPI (M) said it had withdrawn support to the Government in December last following policy differences but had decided to support it again as it did not want the Shiv Sena-BJP combine to return to power. It had been "speaking with the PWP, our leftist ally" that "taking note of the growing danger of communalism, the CPI (M) expects that the other left and secular parties will also take a similar stand". It told the PWP Secretariat that despite a lack of "improvement" on policies, it did not want the Government to be defeated in the confidence vote now.
