Cadaver kidney transplantation performed at NIMS

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD May 31. A cadaver kidney transplantation was performed at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences for the first time recently. This was possible due to the generous gesture by the relatives of Mohammad Yousuf Khan.

An employee of the South Central Railway, Mr. Khan was admitted to the NIMS with a serious head injury suffered in a road accident. He could not be revived due to the grievous injury and brain damage.

When approached by NIMS authorities, Khan's wife, Ghousia Begum, and mother, Badrunnisa Begum, agreed to donate his kidneys. They were successfully transplanted to two patients suffering from chronic renal failure. After the cadaver kidney transplantation both the patients are stable.

The NIMS Director, Kakarla Subba Rao, appreciated the gesture of the family members of Mr. Khan.
