Glowing tributes paid to Shakdher

NEW DELHI MAY 19. Glowing tributes were paid to the former Chief Election Commissioner and former Lok Sabha Secretary General, S. L. Shakdher, who died here on Saturday. In his condolence message, the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, recalled Mr. Shakdher's contribution in strengthening Parliamentary procedures and practices in the formative years of the Indian Republic.

Mr. Shakdher's body was kept in Parliament House today where several MPs and former members paid floral tributes. Among those who offered floral tributes were the Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha, P. M. Sayeed, and the Rajya Sabha MP, L. M. Singhvi.

Wreaths were also placed on behalf of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Manohar Joshi, and the Secretary General of the House, G. C. Malhotra. Among those who paid tributes in person were the former Secretaries General of the Lok Sabha and officers from the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
