Right decision

Sir, — The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa's decision to curb strikes in essential services by introducing a Bill in the Assembly should receive kudos. She has taken a step in the right direction to help the people out from the harassment and vexations of these strikes. The step is necessary as people go on strike on small matters, unmindful of the travails faced by the innocent people. In fact, the Centre should learn from the bold step taken by Ms. Jayalalithaa and introduce the same Bill so that staff of essential maintenance services can be taught a lesson. Some might consider her right step autocratic and snatching away the rights of employees. But then whose right is more important to preserve — those of a few employees or of innumerable innocent citizens.
