Letters to the Editor
Sir, Even after the announcement of the Rs. 150-crore package by the Prime Minister, riots continue unabated in Gujarat. This prolonged trouble and unrest must come to an end, and sooner it is achieved the better for the State and for the country. Uprooting mistrust would be the first step in this direction. Let me quote the words of Sri Aurobindo: ``Hindu-Mohammedan unity cannot be effected by political adjustment or Congress flatteries. It must be sought deeper down, in the heart and in the mind, for where the causes of disunion are, there remedies must be sought. We should remember that love compels love and that strength conciliates strength. We must strive to remove the causes of misunderstanding by a better mutual knowledge and sympathy''. What Sri Aurobindo said some 80 years ago, is relevant today. The need of the hour is to ease tension and restore peace.
Hampa. Nagarajaiah,
