Opinion - Letters to the Editor

It is hypocrisy

Sir, — You have rightly termed the behaviour of the Telugu Desam Party and the Trinamool Congress as hypocrisy (May 2). Had their rhetoric been based on conviction, they would have voted with the Opposition. Theirs is a case of running with the hare and hunting with the hound. But the reason that emboldened them to do so appears to be that they were aware of the hypocrisy of the Congress which failed to condemn the Delhi riots of 1984.

They were also aware that the Opposition parties did precious little when thousands of Kashmiri pundits were evicted or when Hindus in Bangladesh were harassed, evicted and murdered.

Your apprehension that a fair implementation of measures for rehabilitation would not be possible as long as Narendra Modi is Chief Minister, does not appear to be well-founded. In fact, the Opposition has harmed its interests by harping on the removal of Mr. Modi, forgetting the fact that any replacement would come from the same flock.

N.R. Sathyamurthy,
Cuddalore, T.N.
