Two militants arrested in Jammu

By Our Correspondent

JAMMU MAY 5. The Jammu and Kashmir police have said that they have aborted a major militant strike on Jammu city by arresting two militants of the Islamic Front.

The Inspector-General of Police, Jammu range, P.L. Gupta, told reporters here that the police got an intelligence input on April 17 that the militants had checked in at a hotel near the city bus stand. But the militants escaped when police arrived.

On the basis of the information got from hotel staff, a police team was formed to track down the militants, and the team arrested the two — Basharat Majid Mir, a resident of Kupwara district and Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Punjwa — from the periphery of Jammu city on Saturday.

According to police, the militants originally belonged to the Hizb-ul-Mujhaideen.
