RI for jail warders in 'Auto' Shankar case

CHENNAI MAY 4. Five persons, including three jail warders, have been convicted and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for six months in connection with the escape of `Auto' Shankar (since hanged to death) from the Chennai Central Prison in August 1990.

Ramachandran, II Metropolitan Magistrate, found Shankar's brother, Mohan, Selva alias Selvaraj and the jail warders, Kannan, Balan and Rahim Khan, guilty of offences under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) and 223 (escape from confinement or custody negligently suffered by public servant) IPC and sentenced them to undergo six months RI for each offence.

The sentences would run concurrently, says a CB-CID release.
