Protest against violence

GUWAHATI MAY 4 . Guwahati witnessed large-scale protests against the continued communal carnage in Gujarat. The people there demanded dismissal of the Narendra Modi Government and speedy restoration of peace in the trouble-torn State.

Demonstrations and processions marked the day.

Leaders of the the Congress, the CPI, the CPI(M), the CPI(M-L), the RCPI, the Janata Dal (S) and the NCP took part in the procession. The former Chief Minister of Assam, Mr. Sarat Chandra Sinha, was among the prominent participants. Later, at a public rally, the leaders warned of the danger posed by the Sangh Parivar to the plural and democratic polity of India.
