An indefinite curfew is in force in Ranip locality in Ahmedabad. Kapadvanj town in Kheda district, Savli town in Vadodara district and Karchiya village in Savli taluk were also brought under curfew. In Vadodara, police was forced to fire about 90 rounds in Vadi and Panigate localities on those indulging in stone-throwing and arson. Ten shops and cabins were set afire. Two persons were killed and 10 injured in the police firing. Despite the overnight violence, the curfew was relaxed for women for four hours this morning in six police station areas. Barring a stray incident in which a woman was hit with a sharp weapon on the leg in Mandvi locality, the curfew relaxation passed off peacefully. As police acted tough rounding up suspected anti-social elements, Muslims took out a rally alleging harassment of the innocents in the name of combing operations. The Police Commissioner, Deen Dayal Tuteja, however, said large quantities of bombs and other ammunition were recovered and a "factory'' manufacturing crude bombs unearthed in the combing operations in which over 500 people had been arrested. In Ahmedabad, one person was killed and 10 were injured when police fired 20 rounds to disperse the clashing mobs in Ranip locality late last night.
