Siemens links up with Motorola

BERLIN: Siemens has an alliance with Motorola in the development of handsets for the new generation of mobile phones, dubbed universal mobile telecommunications systems (UMTS). Under the agreement, Motorola would supply an integrated UMTS solution to Siemens for use in the German group's own handsets to be launched at the beginning of 2004, Siemens said in a statement. Motorola would also supply Siemens with UMTS handsets, tailored specifically for the German firm. — AFP
