TMC candidate elected in Sholinghur

VELLORE April 9. The TMC candidate, A.M.Munirathinam, was elected chairman of the Sholinghur town panchayat, byelection to which was held yesterday. He secured 5095 votes, defeating his nearest rival, A.Asokan of the DMK by a margin of 1005 votes.

The party also captured seven wards out of the 18 in the town panchayat. The AIADMK came second winning in five wards, including the third ward where its candidate, G.Kausalya, was elected unopposed.

The DMK won three wards, followed by PMK (2) and Independent (1).

The AIADMK candidate, C.Ismail, elected from the third ward in Thorappadi town panchayat, defeating the DMK rival, Ghulam Mohammed, by a slender margin of six votes.
