Just as Arjun Singh booked his semifinal berth on the 18th green, Amit Dube also had to wait till the last hole to edge out Suleiman Ali. In the other half, Dinesh Kumar stunned Uttam Singh Mundy, in the play-off on the 19th hole, while Shiv Prakash negotiated the temperamental Zai Kipgen and won three and two. The battle between Arjun Singh and Vijay Kumar could not have been more nail-biting, particularly when all the quarterfinalists had a taxing day playing 36 holes. Both had come through after winning their pre-quarterfinal round earlier in the morning. Arjun Singh had defeated Rafiq Ali five and four, while Vijay Kumar crushed Digvijay Singh six and four. The results: Quarterfinals: Amit Dube bt Suleiman Ali 1 up; Arjun Singh bt Vijay Kumar 1 up; Dinesh Kumar bt Uttam Singh Mundy on 19th; Shiv Prakash bt Zai Kipgen 3 and 2. Pre-quarterfinals: Suleiman Ali bt Basad Ali 6 and 5; Amit Dube bt Sanjay Kumar 1 up; Arjun Singh bt Rafiq Ali 5 and 4; Vijay Kumar bt Digvijay Singh 6 and 4; Dinesh Kumar bt Dinesh Raghuvanshi on 19th; Uttam Singh Mundy bt S. S. P. Chaurasia 3 and 1; Shiv Prakash bt Mohammed Islam 5 and 4; Zai Kipgen bt Amandeep Johl 3 and 2. Semifinal pairings: Arjun Singh v Amit Dube; Shiv Prakash v Dinesh Kumar.
