Hepatitis-B: medical team visits colony

By Our Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA March 26. A medical team headed by the District Medical Officer, E. J. Kunjamma, visited the Hepatitis-B-hit Ayanthi IHDP colony and surrounding areas of Ammoommakavu and Kaithakulanji today following the reported spread of the disease to more and more people in the locality.

Dr. Kunjamma has said that as per the official records, the total number of infected persons in the locality was 22.

The medical team took 20 others from the Ayanthi colony to the District Hospital at Kozhencherry today for pathological tests and all of them reportedly tested negative.

According to the DMO, the Health department would conduct a medical camp at the colony early next week, besides launching an awareness campaign in view of the spread of the lethal disease to more households in the locality.

However, she said that paucity of funds was the main handicap of the department for taking up more medical projects in the locality.

The local MLA, Malethu Saraladevi, and the Kulanada grama panchayat vice-president, Gopinatha Pillai, were among those who accompanied the medical team to the affected areas.

The DMO has said that 20 more colony people would be taken to the District Hospital for pathological tests tomorrow.
