HC posts Sivasubramaniam case for March 4

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI FEB. 28. Justice P. Sathasivam in the Madras High Court has posted for March 4 further hearing a writ petition filed by the Nakkeeran reporter, S. Sivasubramaniam's wife, seeking a CBI investigation into her complaint that the police, in the name of conducting a search, had stripped and humilated her last week.

Mr. Sivasubramaniam, she said, was taken away in November last from his home, and he was being sought to be implicated in murder cases involving the jungle brigand, Veerappan.

As an interim direction, she sought to restrain the police from arresting her or her relatives. The Judge asked the police not to make any arrest till March 4.

Karunanidhi condemns

In a statement, the DMK president, M. Karunanidhi, has criticised the alleged police harassment of family members of Mr. Sivasubramaniam and the police threat to reporters who went to his house for collecting information.

The police action, he said, amounted to violation of human rights and infringement on press freedom.
