DMK not for poll petition, will only `expose EC'

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI Feb. 27. The DMK president, is filing a case against the Election Commission to `expose various acts of omission and commission in the recent Andipatti Assembly byelection, the party president, M. Karunanidhi, told mediapersons here today. The party was not for filing an election petition against the AIADMK general secretary, Ms. Jayalalithaa. ``We only wanted to bring out the truth that the EC had blatantly violated various provisions of election laws in the byelection''.

Referring to Ms.Jayalalitha's appeal for opposition cooperation for getting additional funds from the Centre without giving room for political animosity, Mr. Karunanidhi said the DMK always acted constructively. It was ready to consider her appeal if the Government convened a meeting of all party MPs.

On the other hand, Mr. Karunanidhi said, there was no reciprocity from the AIADMK and referred to her statement against him on her birthday day when he greeted her.

Rejecting the notion that the BJP election debacle would affect the NDA Government at the Centre, Mr.Karunanidhi said local issues dominated the recent Assembly elections.
