KOCHI, FEB. 22. The Tourism Ministry has submitted a Rs. 96-crore proposal to Jagmohan, Union Minister for Tourism, seeking Central assistance for the various tourism projects that are to be implemented in the State. The proposals submitted to the Union Minister during his visit to Kochi on Thursday include a Rs. 79-crore proposal for pilgrim tourism in the Kalady-Malayattoor sector, setting up of a food court in Ernakulam spending Rs. 1.6 crores, a Rs. 1.5-crore tourist reception centre at Ernakulam, Rs. 5 crores for the development and conservation of Jew street at Mattanchery and Rs. 4 crores for the conservation of heritage sites at Chendamangalam. The Tourism Minister, K. V. Thomas, and the Minister for Cultural Affairs, G. Karthikeyan, accompanied the Union Minister along with top officials of the Tourism Ministry during his visit to various centres in the district. The Union Minister visited the tourist centres in the district including Mattanchery and Bolgatty Palace. Mr. Jagmohan held a detailed discussion with the Tourism Minister and higher officials of the department at the Bolgatty palace on Thursday. The Minister left for New Delhi today.
