Shoranur-Nilambur rail route uneconomic
By Our Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA. FEB. 9. The Railway Passenger Amenities Committee member, K. Raman Pillai, has said that as per railway records, the Shoranur-Nilambur route was the only uneconomic rail route in the State.

Mr. Pillai was talking to reporters at the Thiruvalla railway station today. However, he added the Railways had not identified any uneconomic rail route in Kerala to be opened for private sector participation.

The Railways have taken steps to provide better sanitation, drinking water and proper lighting arrangements and taken measures to stop fleecing of passengers at railway stations in Kerala, Mr. Pillai said.

According to him, the present shortage of coaches is due to the diversion of more bogies and trains to transport military personnel and equipments to the border areas.

He said the NDA Government had taken special interests in proving better rail traffic facilities to Kerala.
