Plea to roll back ST on eatables

PONDICHERRY, FEB. 2. The DMK convenor and former Chief Minister R. V. Janakiraman, has called upon the Administration to rescind the notification effecting eight per cent tax on the sale of eatables in hotels, restaurants, sweet stalls and other eating places in the Union Territory.The eight per cent tax came into effect on Friday. In a statement criticising the Congress government for implementing a tax system that would have adverse effect on the people at large, he said that during his regime in the recent past measures were taken to ensure that the uniform floor rate of taxes was not enforced here.
