India's role in SAARC

Sir, - This refers to ``SAARC: a slow boat to nowhere'' (Jan. 3). It rightly points out that without India's initiative, the SAARC summit will not yield the desirable results and that New Delhi must take the initiative in issues such as ending cross-border terrorism that are nearly impossible to achieve without regional cooperation.

Also, India keeping a low profile will make situations like duty-free access to goods tougher. India should take progressive action or else SAARC summits will become trivial.

M. Bruhaspathy Rao,

Warangal, A.P.
