BMP extends last date for SAS
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE, NOV. 30. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has extended the last date for payment of property tax through the Self Assessment Scheme (SAS) without penalty up to December 7.
A penalty of five per cent will be levied on all tax payments made after December 7.
The second phase of the scheme for 2001-2002 that began on October 1 was scheduled to close on November 30. However, the scheme has been extended as the citizens and BMP officers were busy with the BMP Council elections, a BMP press release said.
Accordingly, all the 28 range offices and additional payment clinics will function from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to receive property tax till December 7.
This apart, all the designated branches of the Syndicate, Canara, Vysya, Dena, and Corporation banks would accept payment of property tax, the release stated.
It may be noted that the property tax collection has not been ``satisfactory'' in the second phase of this year. The BMP, which collected over Rs. 85 crore in the first phase, has managed to collect just over Rs. 20 crore in the second phase. The total property tax collection this year through SAS is over Rs. 100 crore.
People can call 2227822 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. for more details on the scheme. They can also contact the zonal offices on 6566365 (South), 5582247 (East), and 3361704 (West).
