Learner-friendly system for teaching French in Alliance Francaise

PONDICHERRY, NOV. 28. Mr. Alain Thomas, Director of the age-old Alliance Francaise (an institution teaching French to the yearners of languages), here and Dr. V. Nallam, Chairman of the Management Committee of the institution, told newsmen here today that the institution had drawn up elaborate plans to offer coaching according to the requirements and convenience of the learners.

Feedback was being obtained from the students through questionnaire.

Alliance Francaise is a globally renowned centre of learning of French language and has a network spreading over 138 countries. There are nearly 1100 such institutions throughout the world. Within India, there are 15 such centres and Pondicherry which is known for its French connection has one.

Presently there are 1017 students learning the language at Alliance Francaise here.

The system would go on stream in January next. More audio-visual and Compact Disc ROM support would be available. The duration had also been recast to introduce divers system and the accent would be more on the spoken aspect of French.

Mr. Thomas noted with pride that the institution here had the best set of teachers with a good experience. Three of the teachers were French nationals.

The staff were honing their capabilities by participating in periodical workshops and regular orientation courses conducted by the French Embassy.

Dr. Nallam said that a building called `Maison Colombani` belonging to the Alliance Francaise would be refurbished with an expenditure of Rs. 25 lakhs.

There would be multifarious infrastructural facilities in the campus and construction work would start in March next year.

Dr. Nallam said that promotion of Indo-French tie-up was the committed goal of the institution. It would act as a bridge in the exchange of cultural teams between the northern and southern parts of the country.
