ULFA ready for talks
GUWAHATI, NOV. 28. The banned ULFA has expressed willingness to
hold talks with the Centre ``provided'' the Government is ready
to accept its pre-conditions.
``ULFA is willing to have peace talks with New Delhi to solve the
problem of the people of Assam,'' the ULFA chairman, Mr. Arabinda
Rajkhowa, said in a statement on Tuesday, to mark completion of a
decade since the ban on the outfit.
The ULFA chief did not specify the pre-conditions.
``Political dialogue is the only way out for peace in Assam and
to solve the burning problems of the State'', Mr. Rajkhowa said.
He accused the Centre of trying to impose its will on the Assam
people and trying to subdue their struggle by force.
``The latest tool of oppression was the proposed Prevention of
Terrorism Ordinance (POTO). No black laws can undermine our
struggle and will prove futile in the long run,'' he said.
The Centre had invited the ULFA for talks without any pre-
conditions in January saying that a Constitutional solution could
be found to ULFA'S demands.
