Reporter's wife denies charge

By Our Correspondent

CHAMARAJANAGAR, NOV. 28. Mrs. Jayanthi Sivasubramaniam, wife of the Nakkeeran reporter, Mr. Sivasubramaniam, has denied the charge against her husband that he was carrying cassettes and communication equipment meant for the forest brigand, Veerappan.

She told presspersons here on Wednesday that her husband was taken from his house at Athur by unidentified persons at 9 a.m. on November 20 in a jeep. He was ready to go to Salem to provide bail to his friend and reporter of the Tamil magazine, Kumudam, Mr. Kadiravan, in a case booked against the latter by the Salem Police.

This was witnessed by a tea-shop owner. She had lodged a complaint with the Athur Police in this connection. Then, she came to know that her husband had been produced before the Kollegal court. She had already filed a habeas corpus plea in a Chennai court, she said.

``The police did not allow me to see my husband. Even after nine days after the `arrest' of my husband, I have not seen him,'' she said and sought the intervention of the Governments of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to help her meet him.
