Valarmathi Jebaraj sacked

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, NOV. 24. The Backward Classes Minister, Ms. Valarmathi Jebaraj, has been sacked, two days after the death of an aide allegedly attacked by her brother.

An official release here said the Governor, on the advice of the Chief Minister, Mr. O. Paneerselvam, relieved Ms. Jebaraj, with immediate effect. The Dairy Development Minister, Mr. C. Shanmugavelu, will hold additional charge of Backward Classes.

An AIADMK platform speaker, Ms. Jebaraj rose to become Minister after she defeated the former Speaker, Mr. P. T. R. Palanivelrajan, in the May Assembly elections.

However, she came under a cloud when her brother, Mr. Manoharan, allegedly attacked her aide and former journalist, Mr. Shanmugasundaram, on November 11. He died in hospital on Thursday.
