Russia to set up hospital in Kabul
By Vladimir Radyuhin
MOSCOW, NOV. 24. Russia will be the first country to set up a
field hospital and an aid supply centre in Kabul after the Afghan
capital was taken by the Northern Alliance forces earlier this
month. The field hospital will be staffed by Russian doctors and
will initially have 30 beds, said the Deputy Minister for
Emergency Situations, Mr. Yury Vorobyov.
He told a press conference here that efforts were on to set up a
Russian humanitarian aid base in Kabul to take relief supplies
far into Afghanistan. Both the field hospital and the aid supply
centre would be established as soon as the Afghan authorities
provide appropriate sites and approve the deployment of Russian
security.
