2 NCP Ministers quit in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, NOV. 17.Two Meghalaya Ministers belonging to the divided State unit of the Nationalist Congress Party tonight resigned expressing no confidence in the leadership of the Chief Minister, Mr. E.K. Mawlong.

Mr. F.A. Khonglam, Jail and Administration Secretariat Minister, and Mr. Miyasalin War, Social Welfare and Stamps and Registration Minister, sent their joint resignation letter to the Governor, Mr. M.M. Jacob, with a copy to the Chief Minister.

The letter said ``we have no confidence in the leadership of Mr. E.K. Mawlong due to his failure as a leader and as the Chief Minister in running the affairs of the State and therefore we withdraw our support from the Government under his leadership''.

The resignations came in the backdrop of a split in Meghalaya NCP on the issue of withdrawal of support to Mawlong ministry following a directive to this effect by the party high command.
